Every load of lumber we bring in starts off as trees in forests all within a 100-mile radius. This minimizes sub-species diversity, improves uniformity, and reduces carbon footprint. We also love to work with, and support, the people in the local area!

We have wonderful partnerships with sawmills in the area that have segregated lots of timber at their facilities that have been harvested just for us. This helps keep harvest areas and their respective harvest dates together in separate batches. This is a crucial factor, and one that initiates the whole TrackMyTreads process.

Once processed by the mill, every load of lumber received by our facility has a known harvest date and county origin and is tracked meticulously through our production facility.

After initial inspection and manipulation, it’s time to put the load of lumber into our very own proprietary vacuum kiln drying systems. Five days later and from dead green (freshly sawn, no air-drying), our lumber is precision dried to very accurate MC levels (6%-8%). While we dry our lumber in 5 days, everyone else is taking up to 6 months!

The magic doesn’t stop there. After drying the lumber, we now start processing to make panels. We have found ways to simultaneously keep batches of loads of lumber together, while finding ways to increase efficiency in throughput, better over-all color and grain match, and having greater yields!

Once finished and gone through QC, each stair component is stamped with the batch # it came from, and is then stacked onto new pallets, wrapped, strapped, and cornered. Pallets are also uniquely identified for shipping purposes (more precisely, to accurately predict ship dates and actual ship dates to our direct customers).

With each tread having been processed with a personal touch, as well as fully identified, we love to have them call home to see what’s up! We practically named every one of them!
